Here are a few things that I have done within the last 6 months. The work I have been making is pieced, dyed, embroidered. I am trying to make my way through the maze of concept and function.

All fabrics are hand dyed and most came from the same pot of dye. I am interested in the way fabrics respond differently to dye. Fabrics when placed in the same pot will come out looking very differently from each other. This little mystery is fascinating– standing over the pot, stirring, waiting to see how each piece will take the color.

This is another example of the “dye pot mystery”. I have been quilting everything in circles. I am in love with the circle shape and all the work I have been doing recently has included the circle. That wasn’t necessarily a conscious choice, but something I have observed after the fact: I naturally migrate to the circle shape.

Eternity
The following is a bit of my embroidery work:

Feast? is my take on a traditional sampler. With this piece I fell in love with embroidery! Techniques used: applique, drawn thread-work. Although the poor little paper doll looks like she as lost her head, that is only a fault of the photographer.

again, here I find the circle(!) is a nice little home in which to house an image, a texture, a little piece.
karin,
these blankets are amazing! Awesome work!
Dear Karin,
I love the Eternity piece and the “Feast”. I remember where that phrase came from. . . I think my favorite thing on your site is the new scarf. Maybe you have found your voice?
I love to see your work, Karin. It’s so personal and unpretentious. Thanks for sharing, and keep posting!
